Mental disorders are very common these days, with an estimated 26 percent of Americans (1 in 4 adults) suffering from some type of mental health disorder Most of us know someone that has some type of mental problem such as depression, bipolar disorder, or even social phobia. But what about the celebrities or famous people that are suffering with mental illness in the public eye? Scientists have found a link between creativity and mental illness, which explains why so many people in the creative and artistic fields suffer with mental problems. Let's take a look at some of the big names in Hollywood that have battled mental illness. Some of the famous people on our list may shock you! Catherine Zeta-Jones:
Catherine Zeta-Jones had inpatient treatment at a mental health facility in Connecticut in 2011 to deal with her bipolar disorder. She has bipolar II, which means a person has severe depression, but only suffers from a mild manic state that is called hypomania. Mel Gibson:
Mel Gibson is known for his drinking, volatile relationships, and run-ins with the law. But the actor reportedly suffers from bipolar disorder. In a 2002 interview in Australia, Gibson revealed, "I found out recently that I'm manic depressive." The term manic-depressive is used interchangeably for bipolar disorder. Carrie Fisher:
Carrie Fisher, who is most known for her Star Wars role as Princess Leia, has battled drug addiction and bipolar disorder. Fisher has spoken openly about her mental problems, stating, "I am mentally ill. I can say that. I am not ashamed of that." Emma Thompson:
British actress Emma Thompson has depression, but admits her acting career has saved her from "going under". The actress said she feels sad hopeless sometime and doesn't want to get out of bed. Jim Carey:
Jim Carey is the perfect example of the sad clown. He makes people laugh to cover up the sadness he feels inside. Carey has admitted having "peaks and valleys" and admits his depression is the motivation behind the comedy movies he produced. Zach Braff
"Scrubs" actor Zach Braff told Parade magazine that he suffers from depression and revealed his character in "Garden State" is very similar to his real life. Braff said, "To have millions of people go, 'I watched your movie and related,' was the ultimate affirmation that I'm not a freak." Sheryl Crow:
Singer Sheryl Crow has spoken suffering with depression. In her Blender magazine interview, the singer admitted, "Depression has been part of my existence for as long as I can remember. I miss things I never even had." Pete Wentz:
Fall Out Boy star Pete Wentz opened up about his long battle with depression in an interview with Playboy. Wentz said he's had to see therapists since he was a child and is often suicidal. The musician stated, "The hardest thing about depression is that it is addictive. It begins to feel uncomfortable not to be depressed. You feel guilty for feeling happy." There are others in Hollywood that suffer from OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder). Cameron Diaz:

Soccer hunk David Beckham likes things to be symmetrical. Beckham insists on having his shirts hung up by color and has to have everything even. His wife, Victoria Beckham, stated, "He's got that obsessive compulsive thing where everything has to match. If you open our fridge, it's all coordinated down either side. We've got three fridges – food in one, salad in another and drinks in the third. In the drinks one, everything is symmetrical. If there's three cans of Diet Coke, he'd throw one away rather than having three – because it has to be an even number." Chad Johnson, who was arrested on Saturday after his new wife accused him of head-butting her during an argument, is now losing his wife of six weeks. The Miami Dolphins terminated Johnson's contract within 24 hours after his arrest and VH1 pulled his reality series "Ev and Ocho". And now Chad Johnson's wife of 6 weeks, Evelyn Lozada, has filed for divorce claiming her marriage is "irretrievably broken." Lozada is "deeply disappointed" that Johnson hasn't taken responsibility for his actions. She said she hopes that by taking a stand, "she will encourage other women to 'break their silence' on the issue of domestic violence." Chad and Evelyn were just married on July 4th. Kanye West included his girlfriend Kim Kardashian in his latest music video that includes his two collaborations with DJ Khaled. West's video begins with "I Wish You Would" featuring Rick Ross and "Way Too Cold" (which is the song about Kim and her estranged hubby Kris Humphries). The video, which features a shaky camera-action that almost makes you feel ill) features West, Ross, and Khaled in an alleyway rapping. Kim is featured cuddling up with West when he raps, "And I'll admit that I fell in love with Kim." Kim and Kanye appear to be going strong, with rumors she is ready to move on from her divorce from Humphries so she can tie the knot with Kanye. Ron Palillo, the actor who played Horshack on "Welcome Back, Kotter", died this morning at his home near Palm Springs. He was 63. The details surrounding Palillo's death are unclear, but Palillo is believed to have died of a heart attack. Palillo was found by his partner of many years Joseph Gramm around 4:00 AM. Gramm called an ambulance and Palillo was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Palillo is known for his saying, "Ooh ooh ooh, Mr. Kotter" as one of the Sweathogs on the show. Palillo also appeared in "Laverne and Shirley". The actor's co-star Robert Hegyes, who played Epstein, died of a heart attack earlier this year. Country star Scotty McCreery took a tumble off the stage during his concert last week in New York on Friday. The singer opened for Brad Paisley at the Bethel Woods Center For The Arts when midway through his performance of Travis Tritt's song "T.R.O.U.B.L.E." he fell into the crowd. McCreery's ego might have taken a beating, but he hopped right back up on the stage to continue his performance. He even shared video footage of his mishap with fans on Twitter. "Dagum @BradPaisley pranked me again.. he narrowed up the stage on me for my last song….. #MeetTheCrowdNight #ImOk," he tweeted on Friday. Here's Scotty McCreery's New York show (and fall): Paisley had a little fun with the incident and lined the stage with traffic cones and caution tape the following night.

Kenny G has filed for divorce from his wife of 20 years, Balynda Helene Benson-Gorelick. The Grammy winner, whose real name is Kenneth Bruce Gorelick, filed the divorce documents with the Los Angeles Superior Court last week, citing irreconcilable differences. The couple's split comes seven months after his wife filed for legal separation. The 56-year-old musician married Balynda Helene Benson-Gorelick in April 1992 and they have two sons. He is seeking joint custody but is not wanting to pay spousal support. Kenny G is an avid golfer and aircraft pilot, with a De Havilland Beaver seaplane that he flies regularly. George Boedecker Jr., 51, the co-founder of the comfy Crocs shoes, was arrested for DUI this weekend. Boedecker was so wasted that he told cops to "f**k themselves in the ass" and claimed his girlfriend, Taylor Swift, was driving his car and was "batshit crazy". Police in Boulder, CO responded to a call about a man who was passed out in the front seat of his 2010 Porsche Panamera on Saturday night. Police arrived where paramedics were already treating the extremely intoxicated Cros founder. George told police he had just pulled over to take a nap … but later insisted his girlfriend was driving the car, describing her as being "batshit crazy." The police offers asked more about his girlfriend and Boedecker told them she is a "really f*cking famous" singer and then asked if they knew who of Taylor Swift. The cops asked for his address and he smugly replied, "I have 17 f*cking homes." They proceeded to arrest George for DUI and he told the cops he "knew his f*cking rights" and told them "Go f*ck yourselves in the ass." Boedecker even told one officer he was his "enemy for life" and hoped he would "f*cking die." The icing on the cake for this interesting arrest is that Boedecker was wearing flip-flops and not Crocs. Maybe his girlfriend Taylor picked those out for him. Can a break-up make someone more adorable? Well, that's just what seems to have happened with Robert Pattinson. The actor stepped out into the public eye for the first time since the Kristen Stewart cheating scandal, appearing on Jon Stewart's "The Daily Show" and for his "Cosmopolis" premiere. Stewart coyly asked Pattinson, "What have you been up to?" The actor seemed nervous, replying, "God, I thought we already prepared this. I had a joke prepared!" he insisted. "I was all set up and ready to go." Stewart decided it was time to "just do this," and produced Ben & Jerry's ice cream for the both of them. "Now, we're just a couple of gals talking," said Stewart. "All right, tell me everything." Pattinson avoided the question, joking the ice cream might "split" his Spanx". "So what are we doing here? Are you all right?" he asked. "Is everything OK? I'm worried about you, and you're all right?" Pattinson still avoided the question but revealed, "I'm going to sound like an idiot, but my biggest problem in my life is I'm cheap, and I didn't hire a publicist. And in every awkward interview, normally, actors get these things scripted. I'm going to hire a publicist." "I think you should," Stewart agreed, "although, unless you have a time machine …" Stewart wanted to get information out of Pattinson, but was trying to approach the subject in a sensitive manner by joking around. "Listen, the last time I had a bad breakup, Ben and Jerry got me through some of the tougher times," the host shared. "So, I thought you and I could bond over this and talk about, 'Boy, you are better off. Kick her to the curb! Whatever!"
After his taping with Jon Stewart, Robert walked the red carpet at the Museum of Modern Art for his new film "Cosmopolis". Pattinson signed autographs for fans, telling the crowd, "Thank you, guys, for being here." The 26-year-old actor has by lying low at Reese Witherspoon's California estate. He has been left devastated after his longtime girlfriend admitted cheating on him with her "Snow White and the Huntsman" director, Rupert Sanders.
